I have great pleasure to present the Annual Report of
the Govt. College of Teacher Education, Thalassery, for
the year 2005-06.
The Govt. Training College was started in1957 and was
upgraded as Govt. College of Teacher Education in 1994
to provide pre-service and in-service training programme.
The motto of our college is to prepare the teacher to
provide High Quality Education to ‘haves’
and ‘have-nots’ irrespective of Caste, Creed
and Colour.
Highlights of the year:
This year, the students were selected on the basis of
the list prepared by, L.B.S.Centre for Science & Technology
as per the directions of Directorate of Collegiate Education
Thiruvananthapuram. The sanctioned strength for B.Ed.
course is 120 of which 26 were boys and 94 girls. The
admission started on 18th July and the classes commenced
on 22nd July.
We started the course with Principal, 9 faculty members
and 3 Guest Lecturers and the office staff. Smt. Joly.
S., a permanent Lecturer in Malayalam joined us on 26.10.2005.
The Theory classes went on full fledged and a first terminal
examination was conducted. We completed our discussion,
demonstration and criticism classes at the appropriate
time. The main event of our curriculum, the teaching practice
began on 26th October . The students were sent to 18 neighboring
schools. I take this opportunity to express my sincere
thanks to all the Headmasters and teachers of the schools
concerned for their sincere co-operation. Sri. C. Venugopal,
Lecturer in Mathematics was in charge of teaching practice
Co-curricular Activities:
One day workshop related to the preparation of teaching
aids was conducted on 7th September. Campus Research Centre
organized a Workshop on “Emerging Trends in Teacher
Education curriculum and its effective transaction”.
42 faculty members from various Teacher Education Colleges
under Kannur University participated in this workshop.
Sri. Venugopal, Lecturer in Mathematics was the convener
of the workshop. Sri. Rajagopalan, Lecturer in Educational
Psychology of this college was the Chief Moderator of
the programme. It was a successful venture.
Formation
of Clubs:
In order to improve quality of Education, each options
formed corresponding Clubs. All clubs worked actively.
The clubs conducted various programmes in the campus and
as well as in the practicing schools.
“Physica”
the Physical Science Club conducted an interschool Quiz
Competition. Dr. Rajeswari was in charge of that programme.
As a part of our SUPW activity, our teachers and students
visited 4 Social institutions. The programme was organised
by Smt. Mary Xavier, Lecturer in Educational Psychology.
Our students showed their love and concern for the poor.
A study tour was organised by Sri. Ranjit. K., Lecturer
in Physical Education on 28th February. The Principal
as well as other members of the Faculty and Office Staff
accompanied the students. The team visited places of historical
importance and also “KANAVU” an experimental
life centered, learning centre. The tour was informative
as well as interesting.
A Certificate Course on Interior Decoration was conducted
by Dr. Rajeswasri., Lecturer in Physical Science, for
our B.Ed. students. Campus Research Centre is functioning
in this institution with a mission “Perfection through
innovations”. Various activities were carried out
by Campus Research Centre for the benefit of the students
and teachers. Dr. Baiju K. Nath, Lecturer in Natural Science
is the Co-ordinator of CRC.
A special attention programme for students was organised
in this institution by Smt. Mary Xavier, Lecturer in Educational
Psychology to understand our students in a better way
to provide need support to them. As an extension programme,
a One day Exhibition was conducted in the college for
the benefit of the students in the near by schools.
Celebrations:
We celebrated Independence Day, Onam, X’mas, Anti
Raging Day, Teachers Day and Republic Day. Sri. C.K. Babu,
Lecturer in Social Science was in charge of these celebrations.
To reveal the talents of our students, we conducted talents
day with proud and immense pleasure. I am saying that
each and every student of our college whole heartedly
participated. Dr. Abdul Kader Parambat was the Co-ordinator.
The office bearers of the College Union were elected unanimously.
Union was inaugurated by Advocate Sathi Devi, M.P. of
Vadakara, and the Fine Arts Association by Mr. Sivakrishnan
Master, famous Artist and National Teachers Award winner.
Mr. Prabhakaran Pazhassi was the Chief orator.
Achievements
I am proud of my talented students who took part in various
competitions and secured prizes. Our students participated
in a University level Yoga Competition held at Sports
Authority of India (SAI). Two of our students Rasheed,
of Arabic option and Vidya M. Gangadharan, of English
option participated in a District level Essay competition
held by Sathya Sai Seva Committee and won cash prizes.
The teachers’ organization, K.S.T.A., conducted
an Essay writing competition for teachers and students
and our student Sudheer Kumar of Social Science optional
won the Adyapakalokam award for the year 2005-06.
An Inter Collegiate Elocution competition was conducted
at P.K.M. College of Education, Madampam and our students
Rasheed of Arabic optional and Sithara, English optional
secured 2nd and 3rd places respectively and won Cash Prizes.
Sudheer Kumar Social Science optional and Sureshkumar,
Mathematics optional participated in an Inter Collegiate
Quiz competition organised by Desabhimani and secured
Second Place with Gold Medal. Geetha of Physical Science
was selected as Sahithya Prathibha of Kannur University
Fine Arts Festival. Congradulation to winners.
The health club of the college was formally inaugurated
by Dr. U.V. Kumaran, former Principal of Govt. College
of Teacher Education, Thalassery, on 22.9.2005. The Club
conducted a ‘Yoga’ demonstration cum lecture
classes. The programme was greatly appreciated. Another
activity of the club was the awareness programme on “Eye
diseases” Dr. Roshni Pavanan of Govt. Hospital,
Thalassery, took class on this occasion. Miss. Vidya.K.,
Social Science option got selection in the “Women
Hand Ball” team of Kannur University. The Annual
Sports meet of this college was held on 4.3.2006. The
function was inaugurated by Sri.T. Balachandran, Volleyball
Coach, Sports Authority of India, Thalassery. Dr. K. Chandrika,
Principal, hoisted the Flag. Sudarsan Kumar of Mathematics
optional , and Nayanakumari, of Physical Science were
the Individual Champions for men and women .
Accommodation and Amenities:-
We have a Hostel of Men’s with 15 inmates. Hostel
Warden is one of our faculty members , Mr. C.K. Babu,
Lecturer in Social Science is the Hostel Warden. The Ladies
Hostel is under construction.
Our office is working very effectively under supervision
of Senior Superintendent, Mr. K. Rajan.
This year, the staff Council decided to select Best out
going student of each optional. From this eight students
a topper will be selected who will be honoured as the
best student of Govt. College of Teacher Education, Thalassery,
for the year 2005-06. Sudheer Kumar.T. is selected as
the best student of this year. Congratulation to all.
Examination
Results:-
Our students had remarkable achievements in the B.Ed.
Examination held in May 2005. Out of 120 students appeared
for the examination ,102 passed in First class and others
with Second class.
Parent
Teacher Association:-
The P.T.A. of this institution has played a commendable
role during this academic year. In fact, it was the central
axis in moving the machine of Govt. College of Teacher
Education, in the right direction. I use this opportunity
to express my performed gratitude to all the members of
Parent Teacher Association for their co-operation.
Renovation of Alumni Association was held in our college
on 22.02.2006. The function was presided over by Sri.
M.P. Balakrishnan, Retired Principal, DIET. We selected
Dr. U.V.Kumaran, Retired Principal, Govt. College of Teacher
Education, Thalassery, as President, Sri.Hentry Antony,
Teacher St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Thalassery,
as Secretary and Dr. Purushothaman, Lecturer, Sir Sayed
College, Thaliparamba, as Treasurer.
I also take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks
to the members of teaching and non-teaching staff and
the trainees for their whole hearted co-operation in the
smooth functioning of this prestigious institution.
